Re: Extending permission for side projects and alternate names of a band |
Hi Richard - it's totally up to you how you want to handle this. From a technical perspective, it's not possible to have the "creator" field reflect anything other than the name of the collection it's in. You can always put the band name into the "Notes" field of the show and it'll be completely searchable, just not quite as easy as the clickable creator and band fields.
If you want a show to have the band's name in the "creator" field, we can create a new collection for that band's name - there's nothing that says you can't have a collection with just one show in it. We can create a new collection for "The Dudes" and move that one show into it if you like.
Another option would be to create a "Subdudes side projects" collection (like we did with the Edie Brickell side projects and aliases collection).
Let us know how you want to handle it and we'll get busy making it happen!

Re: Extending permission for side projects and alternate names of a band |
Hi, thanks for the quick response!
I think I'd prefer to have separate collections. I'd rather err on the side of being precise, I think too many neophytes who download something and see it's by Band X don't look closely and see that's really by Band Pre-X. So then the recordings get into circulation as by Band X. I'm just being anal, I know.
That said, could we create a few new collections?
- The Dudes
- The Cartoons
- Tommy Malone Band
- 3 Twins
These bands all share the same lineup as today's subdudes (not necessarily ALL of the members, though), except the Cartoons, which included another band member who is deceased.
Is that do-able? If it's something I can do myself, I'll be glad to.
After that's accomplished, there are three "subdudes" recordings that should properly be Dudes shows: 3/29/2002 and 12/5/2002 (two versions).
Thanks!
Richard
